American Chemical Society (ACS) Maryland Section 100th Anniversary Gala!

  • The Maryland Section is proud to be celebrating 100 years of service to local chemist community with a gala. This event features an open bar during a pre-dinner cocktail hour, dinner, and wine served with dinner. Join us as we celebrate the past and take steps toward the future in this fun-filled networking event!  

  • Keynote speaker: Dr. William Carroll, ACS Past President and current Chair of the Board of Directors

  • Join us as we host Dr. Joanne Kamens, Executive Director of Addgene and Founding President of AWIS Massachusetts!  Recently named one of Forbes’ 40 Women over 40, Dr. Kamens has a wealth of knowledge to share with us.  Her presentation will give you some criteria to consider in deciding if embarking on an industry science career is right for you and then will provide concrete tools and resources for preparing for this transition.

Dr. Issel Anne Lim: Webmaster for AWIS Baltimore


Our webmaster has just begun her new position as a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the Big Data and Analytics Program.  She is now working in the Office of Science Policy, Planning, and Communications (OSPPC) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Congratulations, Issel!!

The Joint Chapter Picnic was a fun time of networking, & picnic eats on a rainy summer day!

  • This year AWIS Baltimore & AWIS DC joined AWIS Bethesda in hosting their annual summer picnic!  It was a great time to catch up with our fellow MD-DC Area AWIS family!

Science Camp Coordinator

  • The Community Science Education Program out of the office of Johns Hopkins Government and Community Affairs is looking for a new Camp Coordinator!

  • Every year, Hopkins hosts a Community Science Camp where 5th graders participate in a week-long daily camp that provides science activities. As camp coordinator you would need to coordinate camp activities and supervise 3 other graduate camp aides. A small stipend will be paid for the week.  Interviews to be held throughout the month of September.

Women STEM Speakers

  • The GreenMount School (GMS) is looking for women professionals in STEM fields (especially math, physics, astronomy and computer science) who would be willing to speak with a small group of girls (fifth grade to eighth grade) about their field, how they prepared for it, exciting opportunities, etc. If there is any type of activity that could introduce the girls to the STEM speaker's work, that would be ideal.

  • Commitment: one Friday afternoon in either September, October or November.
